How Many Trees are On Campus
From KUpedia
For decades, University of Kansas students have called KU Info for answers to questions about KU and beyond. An often asked question is "How many trees are there on campus?" KU Info has been quick to offer the answer 17,900 trees. However, KU Info admitted that this was an old number, and jokingly offered to credit anyone with an updated number if they'd be willing to do a count. Wouldn't you know it, someone took it seriously. A global information systems class did a tree density study in fall '07 and has provided an updated number. Now, KU Info can break the number up by west campus and main campus. West Campus, which is heavily wooded and bigger than most realize, has 19,425 trees. Main Campus has 5,110 trees that are maintained by Facilities and Operations, with another estimated 5,000 that aren't maintained. The new grand total of trees on campus is 29,525, or roughly one tree for every KU student.
