The Chi Omega Fountain (often abbreviated as the Chi O Fountain) is the largest of the fountains on campus located at the intersection of Jayhawk Boulevard and West Campus Road in front of the Chi Omega house. Built to honor the founders of Chi Omega and donated to KU by the sorority's members, it was dedicated on April 23, 1955, shortly after its construction was completed. The fountain itself is very detailed. The carved sides of the fountain depict the myth of Demeter, Chi Omega's patron goddess.
Today the fountain is a landmark on the KU campus and is a popular spot to hang out on a warm Kansas day. But beware, while wading in the main level of the fountain is allowed, climbing into the upper levels of the fountain is a ticketable offense. Stopping at the roundabout that surrounds the fountain to discharge passengers can also result in a traffic fine.
It is also an intermittent tradition of KU's opponents to dye the water of the fountain one of the opponent's colors before a football game.
