- Dennis E. Rieger Scholarship Hall opens its doors, providing energy-efficient community living to 50 women.
- In response to what UN officials have called "the biggest forgotten, neglected humanitarian emergency in the world today, KU students create KU for Uganda.
- The Biomedical Engineering Society becomes an officially recognized organization.
- The KU-Mizzou football game, commonly called the Border War, is renamed as the more "politically correct" Border Showdown in light of the war in Iraq.
- With a 23-7 record, the Men's Basketball team wins the Big 12 Championship.
- January 29 - KU hosts ESPN's College Game Day in a game against the #8 ranked University of Texas Longhorns.
- March 19 - Kansas men's basketball experiences a humiliating loss to Bucknell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- November 5 - The KU Men's Football team breaks the Nebraska Cornhusker's 36-game victory with a 40-15 victory in Lawrence. The jubilant crowd triumphantly performs the Holy Post ritual.
