- February 7: The February Sisters take over the East Asian Studies Building in demands for rights for women on campus.
- Hashinger Hall, opened in 1960 as an all Women's Dorm, switches to a Co-ed residence hall, taking on the position as the creative arts residence hall.[1]
- E. Laurence Chalmers ends his term as KU's 11th chancellor.
- Raymond Nichols begins his term as KU's 12th chancellor.
- The KU Young Democarats organization is formed.
- Watkins Hospital becomes the School of Social Welfare
